Welcome to WDHS 2014 Graduation Page


The following is provided to potential graduating students and their family and presents vital information. Please take the time to review this information and keep for reference. Please contact the school with any questions.

Date: Friday, June 27, 2014
Time: Ceremony begins promptly at 1:00 pm.
Location: Hamilton Place (1 Summers Lane, Hamilton, ON)

Please note: Lobby doors open for family and guests at 12:00 p.m. Doors to seating (orchestra, first balcony, second balcony) open at 12:30 p.m. and the ceremony will start promptly at 1:00 pm

Tickets: Seating for family and guests is general admission and on a first come, first serve basis once the doors are open (doors will be open 30 minutes prior to the ceremony start). The tickets will direct you to one of three sections: the orchestra section, first balcony or second balcony (indicated on the envelope containing the tickets). Once you have gained admission to your section you are free to sit in any row but please move are far as possible to the middle of the row leaving no empty seats between you and others already seated. Students who have paid their grad fee by the June 1st deadline will receive their tickets at the Grad Breakfast on Friday, June 6th. Please have your son/daughter indicate the number of tickets you require when they complete their grad survey. Please Note: Graduating students are to arrive at Hamilton Place no later than 12:00 p.m.! Enter through the “Studio” doors off of Summer’s Lane.

Graduation Gowns: Graduating students are to pick-up their cap and gown on Wednesday, June 25th between 9:30 am and 11:30 am. Students are responsible for bringing their cap and gown to the commencement ceremony. There will not be any extra gowns available at the ceremony. Gowns must be returned within 30 minutes after the end of the ceremony. Upon return of the gown, students will be given their graduation portfolio including a graduation photograph, a class composite photograph (for those who opted for formal graduation pictures through Edge Imaging), a graduation diploma and any award certificates.

Photos: It is advised that graduation photos with cap/gown are taken prior to the ceremony. Given the large size of the graduating class there is limited space for photographs and movement in the lobby at Hamilton Place. There will be a professional photographer who will take a picture of each graduating student as they receive their diploma. The pictures will be given to students at the end of commencement when they return their gown.

Graduation Composite: Please click this link to the 2014 graduating class photo or composite. If your son or daughter had a graduation photo taken it should be included in the picture so could you please review the picture for accuracy. If you are still interested in having grad photos done they and included in the class compostite they must be done by April 30th, 2014. Grad photos can be done through Edge Imaging (1-888-416-3343). Checklist: To be eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony the following criteria must be met:

? 30 credits (18 compulsory / 12 elective)
? 40 hours community service by June 1st
? Successful - Ont. Sec. Literacy Test
? Graduation Fee Paid ($70) by June 1st
? All textbooks, uniforms or any other materials returned to the school or paid for
? Complete grad survey by June 1st

Community Involvement Hours: The 40 hours of volunteer service must be completed and handed in by June 1st. Failing to meet this deadline may affect whether the students’ name will appear in the commencement program.

Graduation Fee: A $70.00 grad fee will be charged to each student. This fee helps defray the cost of:

- Grad Breakfast in June
- Graduation gown rental
- Graduation Cap – the cap is a keepsake for the student
- Hall Rental
- Photograph – taken as diploma is presented
- Awards
- Keepsake program

Payments may be made through PayPal (use thebutton on side of this page) or via cheque. Cheques are to be made out to Waterdown District High School and can be handed in at Student Services. Payment must be made by June 1st.

Financial Assistance: Finance should never be a barrier for students to participate in school events. Should families require financial assistance to support any graduation activity, please contact Mr. Derek Zuccolo in Student Services.

Graduation Awards: Awards are determined by a committee comprised of teachers and administration. Decisions made by the committee are final. Students are encouraged to complete the online survey to ensure the committee has a full understanding of each student’s activities while at WDHS. Click to see a list of awards. Complete packages must be submitted to Student Services no later than Friday May 23, 2014 unless an alternate due date is listed next to the award.

Grad Breakfast: Grad Breakfast will take place in the school cafeteria at 7:30 AM on Friday, June 6th. Graduating students are invited to attend this WDHS tradition and vote for their valedictorian. Tickets for commencement will also be distributed at this time.

Honour Roll and Ontario Scholars: We will be posting a list of students who have achieved the WDHS Honour Roll and those who will receive Ontario Scholar status a few days prior to the graduation ceremony.
