Crews are finishing construction of the new Dr. J, Edgar Davey Elementary School, a three-storey school wired with top educational technology that will welcome students next month.
Replacing a 1971 school on the same downtown site, the new Dr. Davey’s opening will conclude a Board revitalization strategy that saw 10 new schools built by 2010. Its students were at Sanford elementary during construction last year.

Roots of Empathy – the social-skills program that turns babies into education’s youngest teachers – is recruiting a new crop of instructors, parents and infants to help reach an estimated 6,500 local students this fall.
ROE is seeking new instructors and parents with infants to visit some of the nearly 80 interested local elementary schools. Lessons involving babies help to reduce student aggression and cultivate positive social skills. Babies must be two to four months old when the program starts... Full Story

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is proud to acknowledge students who excel at their endeavours, and that includes those who do so on the athletic field.
HWDSB’s Athletics Department held a recent celebratory barbecue to recognize male and female Athletes of the Year. Schools differ in how they choose the athletes but all have excelled in sport, and have maintained good marks throughout their school career.

When Mrs. Dziuba’s Grade 3 class – also known as Team Dziuba – first heard about the mountain of books they’d read this year, it was a bit like being invited on a hike... up Mount Everest.
“At the beginning, there was a bit of tugging at the reins,” explained Jennifer Dziuba, who has taught at east-end Sir Wilfrid Laurier elementary for three years. “But once they get on board, it is like a runaway train.”
